upcoming events for youth
just arts: the 24hr project
Poetry and song are used throughout scripture as a call to
imagine a new way of life. The arts can be a powerful force
for pointing out what is wrong with our world and discovering
an alternative. Jesus illustrated the Kingdom of God through
telling stories.
This is exactly what the 24hr project is all about. Youth (ages
12-20) fromchurches from throughout the area will gather at
St. John’s Anglican Church in Peterborough on May 28th at
7pm andspend the next 24 hrs creating art that imagines a new
way of life. A way that respects the rest of creation, a way that
cares for the poor, and way that breaks down barriers in our
communities. Some will spend the 24 hrs painting, or
creating other forms of visual art. Some will spend the time
writing and creating a drama, others will spend the time
writing lyrics and music to songs. At 7pm on the following
evening, May 29th, we will showcase the art we have created
in the Guild Hall at St. John’s for anyone who would like to
attend.
What will you need to participate? If you are a musician bring your instrument. If you are a painter bring your paint brushes. If you are a dancer bring your dancing shoes. Bring what ever you need to create.
The cost is $10 and we must know if you are coming by May 21st.

community justice camp-live the change you want to see: Hamilton, May 9-14, 2010
An event unlike anything you have experienced .A time to delve deep into what you care about...connect with other youth
across Canada...do hands-on learning...play music...worship...laugh, play and so much more. It’s community justice camp.
In May 2010, the Diocese of Niagara is hosting Community Justice Camp. The theme of community development was chosen.
Unlike a conference, Justice Camps are interactive with active learning through immersion experiences with local justice partners. Participants are at least 50% young adults (18-35) with 50% local participation and 50% of the participants being from all across Canada and may include representatives of the international partners of the Anglican Church of Canada.
Participation in Community Justice Camp will enable participants to meet the challenge for the Church to get back to the essence of what Christ called us to do - feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and love our neighbour. The Church, as community, is called to respond to the needs in their neighbourhoods.
At Community Justice Camp, the wisdom lies in the group - the learning is lateral - the grace abundant. Everyone is potentially, or already an expert ... a mentor ... a disciple ... a friend. Community Justice Camp seeks to create the space, the ways and means, for the Spirit to move, making change and transformation possible.
If you are over 18 years old and are interested in going, contact Christian Harvey.
